Transition at West Monmouth School
The following schools are our main feeder schools-
- New Inn Primary
- Griffithstown Primary
- George Street Primary
- Penygarn Primary
We also welcome pupils from other schools within the locality, and pupils from other areas.
We have excellent links with all of our feeder schools and work closely with our Primary colleagues in order to provide continuity and progression for your child as they move onto their secondary education.
Activities!
Our successful transition plan includes opportunities for pupils from Year 3 onwards to visit West Mon and to become familiar with the school and its staff. West Monmouth staff also visit the primary schools in order to run clubs and teach lessons, from PE, Science and Drama to Art workshops and a ‘Big Thinkers’ Club!
This Transition programme allows a smooth and trouble-free transition for your child.
The member of staff with responsibility for transition and links to primary schools is Miss Claire Hughes, Deputy Headteacher. She works closely with the Head of Learning for Year 7, Miss Marie Holborn. During Year 6 Miss Holborn will work closely with the Year 6 teachers in all primary schools.
All information about the pupils will be shared; such as academic information, achievements and interests and also friendship groups. This very important process of sharing information will help provide a smooth and trouble-free transition for each pupil.
For many reasons, some pupils will require an enhanced transition programme, and this will be carefully planned according to the individual pupil.
